Yuhan(000100) said on the 30th that it will introduce the blood sugar management probiotic "DangQ-Lac" in Mexico. Yuhan signed a contract in 2024 with a local partner to supply 13 billion won worth of probiotics over five years. Product registration was completed last year, and full-scale sales begin this year.
According to the International Diabetes Federation, Mexico has a high adult diabetes prevalence of 16.4% (2024). Diabetes is difficult to cure and requires lifelong management. Complications such as stroke and myocardial infarction can arise and lead to death. Yuhan plans to penetrate the blood sugar management market in Mexico, where there are many people with diabetes.
In a human application trial, this probiotic showed a reduction in HbA1c (average blood glucose) after eight weeks of intake. Postprandial two-hour blood sugar levels also fell. Based on this, Yuhan earned a functionality acknowledgment from the Ministery of Food and Drug Safety.
A Yuhan official said, "We will use Mexico, where the health functional food market is growing, as a springboard to expand our business in Latin America."
