Dong-A Socio Holdings(000640) logged double-digit growth in the second quarter this year, helped by sales increases of Bacchus and over-the-counter medicines.
Dong-A Socio Holdings said on the 27th that second-quarter sales on a consolidation basis rose 18.9% from a year earlier to 412.4 billion won. Operating profit increased 38.3% to 39 billion won.
The improvement was led by Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co., the over-the-counter medicine subsidiary.
Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co.'s second-quarter sales rose 25.7% year over year to 228.2 billion won, and operating profit increased 26.6% to 30.2 billion won.
Bacchus sales increased 26.6% to 87.8 billion won, and the over-the-counter (OTC) business also grew 36.5% to 74.5 billion won. The healthcare (HTC) business, including health functional foods, increased 4.4% to 52 billion won.
The logistics affiliate Yongma Logis also continued to grow on the back of increased volumes from existing customers and new client wins. Second-quarter sales rose 19.7% to 120.5 billion won, and operating profit increased 41.6% to 6.9 billion won.
In contrast, BTGEN, a contract manufacturing organization (CMO) affiliate for biopharmaceuticals, saw results decline as key customers' production schedules were concentrated in the second half. Sales fell 45.2% from a year earlier to 13.7 billion won, and operating profit also dropped 90% to 400 million won.
Dong-A Socio Holdings also maintained growth on a half-year basis. First-half sales on a consolidation basis increased 13.0% year over year to 763.4 billion won, and operating profit rose 19.8% to 58.1 billion won.
Meanwhile, ST Pharm(237690), a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) subsidiary for active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), posted a second-quarter operating profit of 18.3 billion won, up 41.7% from a year earlier. Sales in the same period rose 58.9% to 108.5 billion won.
Dong-A ST(170900), the prescription drug subsidiary, also recorded operating profit of 10.9 billion won, up 170.4%, and sales up 17.2% to a quarterly record of 207.8 billion won.
