PharmaResearch's subsidiary PharmaResearch Medicare said on the 8th that it has launched the osteoporosis treatment "Teriment (teriparatide)."
Teriment is a biosimilar of "Forteo," an osteoporosis treatment from Eli Lilly and Company, for which PharmaResearch received product approval from the Ministery of Food and Drug Safety in July last year.
The product is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and in men at high risk of fractures. It can also be prescribed to treat osteoporosis in patients whose fracture risk has increased due to long-term use of glucocorticoids.
Teriparatide is an osteoanabolic agent that promotes osteoblast activity to help form new bone. In recent osteoporosis treatment, a "sequential therapy" strategy—first administering an osteoanabolic agent to patients at high risk of fractures and then continuing treatment with an antiresorptive—is drawing attention, and teriparatide is used as a representative therapy in this strategy.
PharmaResearch Medicare plans to use the launch of Teriment to expand its musculoskeletal treatment portfolio and to supply products stably to Korea's medical field.
A PharmaResearch Medicare official said, "PharmaResearch Medicare is strengthening its competitiveness in the musculoskeletal treatment field by expanding its product portfolio from the intra-articular injection 'Conjuran' and the human-derived collagen injection 'SesiM L' to the osteoporosis treatment segment," adding, "With the launch of Teriment, we expect to broaden treatment choices for patients at high risk of fractures or those needing rapid bone formation, and enable clinicians to use treatment options more flexibly according to patient conditions."
