Samsung Epis Holdings said on the 1st that it held an opening ceremony for the "Samsung Bioepis China R&D Center" in Changping District, Beijing, on the 30th of last month and began full-scale research and development (R&D) activities.
This center is Samsung Epis Holdings' first overseas research and development base. It will be operated as a field-specialized organization to secure an antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) technology platform and strengthen new drug development capabilities.
Earlier, in May, Samsung Epis Holdings established Samsung Biotechnology China Co., Ltd. (三星生物科技(中國)有限公司), a wholly owned subsidiary in Changping District, Beijing, for the purpose of biopharmaceutical research and development.
Launched in November last year, Samsung Epis Holdings is a bio investment holding company and has pursued various business strategies to strengthen future new businesses.
Changping District, Beijing, where the center is located, is home to the Zhongguancun (中關村) Life Science Park, a bio high-tech industrial complex. It is adjacent to major universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua University and is regarded as a bio cluster that can secure excellent research infrastructure and talent.
Kim Kyung-ah, president of Samsung Epis Holdings, said, "With the opening of the China R&D center, we have taken the first step in building a global R&D network," and added, "We will continue to expand new businesses, including identifying innovative new drug candidates, in close cooperation with China's bio ecosystem."
