CG MedTech, a company specializing in research and manufacturing of orthopedic and dental implants, will work with Kolon Pharmaceutical to develop and produce a skin booster based on human tissue (a procedure product injected into the skin to help improve hydration and elasticity).

CG MedTech said on the 16th that it signed a contract manufacturing and development (CDMO) agreement with Kolon Pharmaceutical to develop, produce and supply products for skin boosters using human tissue–derived extracellular matrix (hECM; Human Extracellular Matrix).

The deal is the first commercialization case for CG MedTech's human tissue CDMO business.

hECM is the structure that remains after cells are removed from human tissue. It contains proteins and growth factors that aid tissue regeneration and is used in regenerative medicine and aesthetics (skin beauty).

Under the agreement, CG MedTech will handle product development and production, quality control, regulatory responses and supply system establishment, while Kolon Pharmaceutical will be responsible for sales and distribution, focusing on the domestic hospital and clinic market.

Kolon Pharmaceutical plans to expand its aesthetics business group (portfolio), and CG MedTech plans to accelerate the commercialization of its human tissue–based manufacturing platform.

Yu Hyun-seung, CEO of CG MedTech, said, "The collaboration with Kolon Pharmaceutical is the first case of expanding the human tissue–based business value chain to external clients," adding, "We will establish ourselves as a strategic partner that supports clients' successful commercialization based on our accumulated manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and regulatory response capabilities."

Meanwhile, CG MedTech recently acquired a tissue bank in Seongnam from CGBio, strengthening its ability to secure human tissue raw materials. The company said it is accelerating the expansion of its human tissue business by building a value chain that spans raw material sourcing, product development and production, quality control, regulatory approval and supply.
