The Ministry of Science and ICT said it appointed Yoon Hye-on, senior principal research fellow at the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), as the new chair of the Korea Foundation for Women In Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET), effective June 15.
The Korea Foundation for Women In Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET) is an institution that carries out programs to support the growth of women scientists and engineers and to expand the use of talent in the science and technology sector.
Yoon, the new chair, is currently serving in the Regional Analytical Science Division at the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI). Yoon has served as president of the Korean Federation of Women's Science and Technology Associations, a distinguished professor at the National Institute of Science and Technology Human Resources Development, and the general chair of the Science and Technology Basic Plan Establishment Committee, working in talent development and policy in science and technology.
The appointment of the new chair was made through the review and recommendation process of the Executive Recommendation Committee in accordance with Article 20 of WISET's articles of association and related regulations. Yoon's term runs for three years from June 15, 2026.
