JW Pharmaceutical said on the 1st it released Livalozet 1/10 mg, a low-dose product of the dyslipidemia (hyperlipidemia) treatment Livalozet.
Livalozet is Korea's first two-drug fixed-dose improved combination that pairs pitavastatin and ezetimibe, both active ingredients for treating dyslipidemia. Pitavastatin inhibits cholesterol synthesis in the liver, and ezetimibe blocks cholesterol absorption in the small intestine, helping reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. LDL-C can accumulate on blood vessel walls and cause arteriosclerosis, so it is commonly called "bad cholesterol."
The newly launched Livalozet 1/10 mg is a low-dose combination of 1 mg of pitavastatin and 10 mg of ezetimibe. With this new strength added to the existing 2/10 mg and 4/10 mg products, tailored prescriptions can now be made to match patients' LDL-C levels and treatment goals.
The company expects it will be a new treatment option especially for patients who need low-dose statin therapy or for those whose LDL-C control is insufficient with monotherapy.
JW Pharmaceutical is expanding its product lineup to target the dyslipidemia market with Livalo, the original pitavastatin product, as well as Livalozet, Livalo High, and Livalo Peno. The company plans to segment pitavastatin-based therapies to broaden patient-specific treatment options and to strengthen the competitiveness of its original combinations.
A company official said, "The launch of Livalozet 1/10 mg is meaningful in that it expands the product lineup so that more segmented treatment strategies can be chosen according to patients' conditions and treatment goals," adding, "We will continue to provide a range of treatment options needed for LDL-C management and cardiovascular disease prevention, centered on the Livalo product family."
Meanwhile, JW Pharmaceutical is also conducting activities to improve disease awareness among dyslipidemia patients. Through the "Please continue, statin" campaign, it provides guidance on treatment goals, medication methods, and information on adverse reactions, helping patients properly manage their condition in relation to statin therapy.
