Bio investment holding company Samsung Epis Holdings will build a research and development (R&D) center in China to strengthen new drug development capabilities and will officially open it in June.

Samsung Epis Holdings said on the 29th that it established Samsung Shengwu Keji (China) Co., Ltd. (hereafter Samsung Bioepis China R&D Center), a wholly owned subsidiary in Changping District, Beijing, China, for the purpose of biopharmaceutical research and development.

Samsung Epis Holdings is a bio investment holding company launched in November last year. The company has pursued various business strategies to strengthen future new businesses.

The company said it is the first global research and development base to secure a technology platform centered on Antibody-Drug Conjugate (ADC) and to strengthen new drug development capabilities.

Changping District, where the R&D center is located, is an area with excellent research and development infrastructure and human competitiveness, home to Zhongguancun Life Science Park, a bio high-tech industrial complex, and adjacent to prestigious universities such as Peking University and Tsinghua University.

The company said it plans to launch as a field-specialized research and development organization operated by hiring professionals locally.

President Kim Kyung-ah of Samsung Epis Holdings said, "Establishing the China R&D center is an active global move to strengthen research and development capabilities," and added, "We will work harder to strengthen our business capabilities for next-generation bio new drug development by actively using China's outstanding local talent and technology infrastructure, which have recently stood out in the ADC technology field."
