Celltrion said on the 26th that it will fully introduce artificial intelligence (AI) for new drug development. It will use AI to discover and verify new drug candidates. The plan is to shorten the new drug development timeline, which takes more than 10 years, and reduce expense.
Celltrion will also deploy AI in pharmaceutical manufacturing. At the fourth and fifth active pharmaceutical ingredient plants planned for construction in Songdo, it will introduce autonomous transport robots, automated logistics warehouses, intelligent robot arms, and manufacturing execution software. In the long term, it will deploy humanoids (humanlike robots) to automate high-difficulty tasks without human intervention.
It will also use AI for document management and office work. It said it can manage electronic documents with a chatbot and cut the time required for simple tasks by 80%–90%. Earlier, after conducting in-house AI training and a survey, average employee satisfaction reached 90%.
A Celltrion official said, "AI can improve work efficiency," adding, "We will adopt AI across the entire business process, starting with new drug development, to leap forward as a global pharmaceutical company."
