The National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) said it appointed Park Se-woong, a professor at Seoul National University's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as the new president of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) at its 242nd regular board meeting on the 19th.
Park, the new president, received his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Seoul National University and earned a Ph.D. in systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991.
After joining Seoul National University in 1994, Park served as head of the Informatization Headquarters, among other posts, and served as president of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences and as a full member of The National Academy of Engineering of Korea. Park also worked as a researcher at AT&T Bell Labs in the United States.
Park will receive his letter of appointment from Chair Kim Young-sik of the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) on the 20th and officially begin his term. The term runs for three years, from May 20, 2026, to May 19, 2029.
