Nara Space Technology will cooperate with Indonesian satellite communications corporations Telkomsat in satellite-based Earth observation and data analysis.

Nara Space said it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 12th in Jakarta, Indonesia, with PT Telkomsat Indonesia (Telkom Satelit Indonesia), the satellite-specialized subsidiary of the PT Telkom Indonesia Group, to cooperate on businesses that utilize satellite data.

Telkomsat is a corporations that has provided satellite communications services centered on Indonesia. This agreement is meaningful in that it is cooperation between a local corporations with satellite communications infrastructure and a Korean space corporations with Earth observation satellite data and analysis technology.

Through this agreement, the two companies plan to discuss development of satellite-based Earth observation technology, identification of business opportunities for Earth observation services, review of the feasibility of building local infrastructure such as ground stations and data processing systems, and development of data distribution platforms and value-added data products. Cooperation for strengthening local capabilities, including education, technology transfer, and personnel exchanges, was also included on the agenda.

The areas of cooperation are expected to focus on disaster response, maritime and forest monitoring, infrastructure management, and environmental and climate analysis, taking into account Indonesia's geographic characteristics and local demand. In particular, in Indonesia, which has many islands and a long coastline, it is difficult to continuously grasp wide areas with only land-based observation networks, so the potential for using satellite-based data is high.

Based on this cooperation, Nara Space plans to expand the applicability of Earth observation data and analysis services in the Southeast Asian market, including Indonesia.

Lee Jeong-gyu, Nara Space's business director, said, "Earth observation data and image analysis technology held by Nara Space can be used in various fields such as disasters, oceans, and forests," and noted, "This cooperation will serve as an opportunity to expand the scope of satellite-based services not only in Indonesia but also in the Southeast Asian market."
