Abnormal uterine bleeding, facial nerve palsy, tinnitus, and other conditions have been newly added to the list of COVID-19 vaccine side effects. People who developed these conditions after vaccination can apply for formal compensation.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency on the 18th, the COVID-19 Vaccination Injury Compensation and Reassessment Committee decided to convert suspected vaccination-related conditions that had previously been eligible for "support" into conditions eligible for "compensation."
Accordingly, the conditions added to the compensation list are 13 in total: ▲ cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (AstraZeneca, Janssen) ▲ capillary leak syndrome (AstraZeneca, Janssen) ▲ Guillain-Barré syndrome (AstraZeneca, Janssen) ▲ immune thrombocytopenia (AstraZeneca, Janssen) ▲ acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (AstraZeneca) ▲ venous thrombosis (Janssen) ▲ erythema multiforme (Pfizer, Moderna) ▲ transverse myelitis (AstraZeneca, Janssen, Pfizer, Moderna) ▲ cutaneous small-vessel vasculitis (Janssen) ▲ tinnitus (AstraZeneca, Janssen) ▲ facial swelling in filler recipients (Pfizer, Moderna) ▲ facial nerve palsy (AstraZeneca, Janssen, Pfizer, Moderna) ▲ abnormal uterine bleeding (all vaccines).
For myocarditis and pericarditis, compensation had been limited to those who received Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, but recipients of the Novavax vaccine are now included.
Once designated for formal compensation, recipients can receive flat-rate caregiving support in addition to medical expenses.
The agency said it will actively support deliberations by the Compensation and Reassessment Committee in accordance with the provisions of the special law.
