Gachon University Gil Medical Center said on the 2nd that it signed a business agreement with iSCENT, a company specializing in scent marketing, to introduce an Aromachology-based fragrance solution.
Gil Medical Center and iSCENT plan to build a space fragrance solution that helps patients feel psychologically stable by introducing a healing scenting program in key areas such as the hospital's main building, the cancer center, entrances to the women's cancer hospital, and lobbies, along with a diffusion system using globally patented technology. They will also operate related solutions in shared spaces such as restrooms to maintain a pleasant and hygienic environment.
Raymond Matts, iSCENT's perfumer and a world-renowned fragrance designer, is expected to take part in designing an Aromachology-based scenting curation unique to Gachon University Gil Medical Center.
The aim is to apply a space fragrance program so that patients and caregivers visiting the hospital can feel psychologically at ease when they arrive, helping them begin their medical care with a positive experience.
Choi Areum, CEO of iSCENT, said, "This project is a pioneering attempt to introduce a professional scenting program aimed at improving the patient experience in medical settings to a domestic medical institution." Choi explained, "Studies have reported that fragrance experiences in medical environments help ease patients' tension and anxiety and lead them to perceive their waiting and pre-consultation experiences more positively."
Kim Ukyeong, president of Gachon University Gil Medical Center, said, "We will work with iSCENT so that patients and caregivers who come to the hospital with nervous minds can feel at least some calm in a fragrant space, use the hospital comfortably, and build positive experiences with the hospital."
At the signing ceremony held at the hospital on the 30th, attendees included hospital leadership such as President Kim Ukyeong; from iSCENT, CEO Choi Areum; Nicolas Perez, executive director in charge of Asia business development at the U.S. headquarters; Planning Director Choi Yuna; Technician Oh Changgyu; and other officials.
