The Ministry of Intellectual Property appointed Lee Sedol, a special professor at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, who is regarded as a symbol of human creativity in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), as its first honorary ambassador.
The Ministry of Intellectual Property said on the 12th that it selected Lee as its first honorary ambassador and held an appointment ceremony. The appointment was arranged after the Korean Intellectual Property Office was relaunched as the Ministry of Intellectual Property in Oct. last year, to convey the agency's identity and policy direction suited to the AI era to the public in a more friendly and symbolic way.
The appointment ceremony proceeded with the signing of the honorary ambassador agreement and the presentation of the appointment plaque. Lee then gave a lecture on the theme of "10 years since the AlphaGo match, a new era, new thinking," conveying the meaning of creativity and new thinking in the AI era.
The Ministry of Intellectual Property plans to carry out various communication activities with the honorary ambassador so that the public can more easily understand the intellectual property system and actively use it in everyday life and in industrial settings.
Kim Yong-seon, head of the Ministry of Intellectual Property, said, "This appointment is even more meaningful as it takes place in the week marking the 10th anniversary of the AlphaGo match," and added, "Even in the AI era, when new ideas are protected and used as intellectual property, they can translate into national competitiveness, and we will continue to share this message with the public."
