A bronze relief sculpture honoring the achievements and drug development philosophy of the late founder and former chairman, Lim Sung-ki, of Hanmi Pharmaceutical Group has been unveiled to the public for the first time.
Hanmi Group said on the 4th that immediately after the 5th Lim Sung-ki Researcher Award ceremony hosted by the Lim Sung-ki Foundation, it held an unveiling ceremony for the bronze relief sculpture created by installation artist Park Chung-heum.
The unveiling took place on the 2nd at the newly built Hanmi C&C Square behind Hanmi Pharmaceutical headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul. Chair Song Young-sook, Vice Chair Lim Joo-hyun and President Lim Jong-hoon led the unveiling.
Attendees included former Vice Chair Lee Kwan-soon, who worked with former Chairman Lim on drug development for many years; CEO Park Jae-hyun of Hanmi Pharmaceutical; Head of New Product Development Kim Na-young; Head of Domestic Marketing Park Myung-hee; Head of Business Management Shin Sung-jae; Head of the R&D Center Choi In-young; Executive Vice President (CFO) Shim Byung-hwa of Hanmi Science; and Woo Ki-seok, CEO of Online Pharm, among other key figures from Hanmi Group.
The relief bears an image of the former chairman and his handwritten phrase, "Innovative management for a powerhouse in pharmaceuticals." It divides major achievements into four sectors: ▲ Birth ▲ Beginning of innovation ▲ R&D management ▲ Paradigm shift.
It chronicles key milestones in order: the founding of Lim Sung-ki Pharmacy; the establishment of Hanmi Pharmaceutical Industry in 1973 and the launch of its first product, the broad-spectrum antibacterial "T.S. Powder"; completion of the Paltan good manufacturing practice (GMP) plant; construction of the Dongtan R&D Center; and the largest new-drug technology exports among domestic pharmaceutical companies.
The late chairman's conviction, "New drug development is like my life," is also inscribed. The description said it symbolically shows the background for consistently pursuing research and development-centered management.
It also includes the nation's first cases of improved and combination new drugs and major items. Representative examples include the dyslipidemia combination drug "Rosuzet," the hypertension treatments "Amodipin" and "Amozaltan" and other prescription drugs, as well as the children's antipyretic "Suspension," the lactic acid bacteria intestinal regulator "Medilac," and the children's multivitamin "Ten Ten."
Chair Song Young-sook personally took part in the production process. Song said, "The Lim Sung-ki spirit is the most important value and legacy Hanmi must uphold," and added, "I hope the former chairman's will continues through the bronze relief installed on the first floor of Hanmi C&C Square."
