Huons has entered the in vitro diagnostic medical device business by introducing an in vitro analyzer capable of testing G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) and vitamin C blood levels.
Huons said on the 30th that it signed an exclusive domestic distribution contract with Rappeler Co. for the Dr.Rappeler R1 Analyzer and three types of strips. Rappeler is a Korea-based company established in 2018 with the goal of developing vitamin-based therapeutics and diagnostic devices.
The Dr.Rappeler R1 Analyzer is an in vitro diagnostic medical device approved as Class 1 by the Ministery of Food and Drug Safety. With a single device, users can test G6PD levels or vitamin C blood concentration by using different consumable strips. Results can be checked within 4 minutes in clinical settings, allowing for broad utility.
The two tests are used before and after high-dose vitamin C injections to ensure safety and confirm efficacy. High-dose vitamin C injections, targeting a blood concentration of 400 mg/dL, are drawing attention as a cancer treatment. However, a G6PD test is mandatory before administering high-dose vitamin C.
G6PD is an enzyme that protects red blood cells from harmful substances. If it is deficient in the body, side effects such as hemolytic anemia may occur when administering high-dose vitamin C injections, so testing is performed before prescribing vitamin C.
When conducted before and after vitamin C injections, the vitamin C blood concentration test can confirm the effect of the administration with precise values.
Huons aims to establish the "Dr.Rappeler R1 Analyzer" in the market centered on hospitals and clinics that use the vitamin C injection "Merit C."
Huons has a comprehensive healthcare portfolio spanning prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and medical devices. In particular, it leads the vitamin therapy sector with a focus on the high-dose vitamin C injection "Merit C."
A Huons official said, "Rappeler R1 is a product that can maximize the therapeutic effect of vitamin C injections while minimizing side effects," adding, "We will contribute to building a personalized precision medical environment in connection with the high-dose vitamin C injection 'Merit C.'"
Meanwhile, in 2021, Huons Global and Rappeler signed a strategic business partnership agreement for cooperation in the vitamin C field.
