In January this year, the winners of the Korea Engineer Award were Yoon Sung-su, executive vice president at LG Energy Solution Co., Ltd., and Park Young-gu, CEO of Sehwa ES Co., Ltd.
The Korea Engineer Award is a commendation program for outstanding engineers that selects each month an engineer who has made a major contribution on the front lines of technology and confers the deputy prime minister (minister of science and ICT) award and a cash prize (5 million won) to encourage technological innovation in industry and foster a climate that respects engineers.
Yoon Sung-su, an executive vice president affiliated with the LG Energy Solution Technology Research Institute, was selected for the award in recognition of contributions through the development of solvent-free dry electrode manufacturing technology to reducing LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery manufacturing expense and securing technological competitiveness in energy storage systems (ESS) (including improving energy density).
Yoon Sung-su said, "Based on past research and development experience, I will do my best to lead the domestic battery industry through continuous technological innovation, and I express my gratitude to the colleagues who have worked together."
Park Young-gu, CEO of Sehwa ES Co., Ltd., was selected for the award in recognition of implementing eco-friendly technology that can manufacture lithium compound materials by using by-products generated in the cathode material industry for secondary batteries and waste from the semiconductor industry, based on roughly 25 years of research experience in the environmental industry.
Park Young-gu said, "I find it meaningful that world-class eco-friendly resource circulation technology can now be applied to the domestic secondary battery industry, and I will continue to pursue ongoing innovation and challenges to strengthen the competitiveness of core industries."
