Roh Tae-Moon, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics' DX division, and Moon Hyuk-soo, president and CEO of LG Innotek, along with other key industry figures, will join The National Academy of Engineering of Korea next year as new regular members. Choi Soo-yeon, CEO of Naver, and Hyun Shin-Gyoon, president and CEO of LG CNS, among others, will join the academy as general members.
The academy on the 22nd announced a list of 133 people for next year, including 49 new regular members and 84 general members.
The academy is the country's most prestigious scholarly organization in engineering, with participation from both academia and industry. The number of regular members is capped at 300 and general members at 400, and they are selected through performance reviews and votes by regular members and approval by the board of directors, respectively. With this year's new appointments, the academy will have 291 regular members and 394 general members.
There are 49 new regular members of the academy next year in total. From academia, 23 were selected, including Choi Jae-won, president of Pusan National University, and Son Hoon, professor at KAIST. From industry, 26 were selected, including Roh Tae-Moon, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics' DX division, and Moon Hyuk-soo, president and CEO of LG Innotek. Notable corporate executives include Park Yong-in, president of Samsung Electronics' System LSI business unit; Oh Se-gi, head of the ES R&D Center and executive vice president of LG Electronics' ES Business Unit; Cho Hye-jung, executive vice president of Samsung C&T's construction division DxP headquarters; Kim Chang-hwan, executive vice president in charge of electrified energy solutions at Hyundai Motor's R&D division; and Choi Hyun-chul, executive vice president of LG Display's SC business unit.
A total of 84 people will newly join as general members. Forty-three from academia will participate, including Lee Hyun-suk, professor in the School of Biological Sciences at Seoul National University, and Kim Ik-su, vice president of Shinshu University in Japan. Forty-one from industry will also be included, including Choi Soo-yeon, CEO of Naver, and Hyun Shin-Gyoon, president and CEO of LG CNS. Others include Koo Ja-heum, executive vice president of the Foundry Technology Development Office in Samsung Electronics' DS division; Kim Jong-hwan, executive vice president of DRAM Development at SK hynix; Lee June-hee, president and CEO of Samsung SDS; Lee Cheong, president and CEO of Samsung Display; Wi Hoon, vice president of Samsung Electronics and Samsung Research's Life Solution Team; Jung Soo-hwa, executive vice president at LG Electronics' Production Technology Center; Han Dong-hee, executive vice president in charge of electrification development at Hyundai Motor; Song Yong-jin, president of Doosan Enerbility; Song Chang-rok, CEO of SK Materials; Song Yong-ho, head of the AI Center and executive vice president in Samsung Electronics' DS division; Park Jung-shin, executive vice president and head of preclinical development at SK Biopharm; and Baek Seung-wook, founder and chair of the board at Lunit.
Yoon Ui-joon, president of The National Academy of Engineering of Korea, said, "As this year marks the 30th anniversary of our founding, we were even more deliberate in selecting members," and noted, "We did our utmost to bring together innovative leaders who will powerfully steer Korea's engineering community as an engineering think tank," explaining the selection background.
