The Korea Intellectual Property Office said on the 15th that on the 14th (local time) it signed a "Qatar national intellectual property strategy plan establishment contract" with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Qatar and would begin full-fledged cooperation in the intellectual property field.
The contract is to implement the "Korea-Qatar strategic partnership program on establishing a national intellectual property strategy and capacity building," which was signed in July between the Korea Intellectual Property Office and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Korea Intellectual Property Strategy Agency (KISTA), an affiliated organization of the Korea Intellectual Property Office, will carry out the project.
The project will run for one year and, specifically, will promote the establishment of a national intellectual property strategy plan that includes an analysis of Qatar's intellectual property environment and the vision, goals, strategic priorities, key performance indicators, and targets for the creation, protection, utilization, and enforcement of intellectual property. Two experts from the Korea Intellectual Property Office and one expert from the Korea Intellectual Property Strategy Agency (KISTA) will be dispatched to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to support smooth on-site implementation.
Vice Minister Mok Seong-ho of the Korea Intellectual Property Office held high-level talks with Vice Minister Mohammed bin Hassan Al Malki of the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry before the contract signing ceremony and discussed seamless implementation of the contract and future cooperation plans in the intellectual property field, including detailed implementation plans for the intellectual property strategy.
Kim Yong-seon, commissioner of the Korea Intellectual Property Office, said, "With this contract, our cooperation base in the Middle East has expanded further following the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia," and added, "The Korea Intellectual Property Office will continue to strengthen intellectual property cooperation with Middle Eastern countries to create a business-friendly environment for our corporations on the ground."
