Korea University Medical Center will build its fourth hospital in Dongtan 2 New Town in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. As the area's population is growing rapidly but lacks major hospitals, the new facility is expected to become a key hub to close medical gaps in the southern Seoul metropolitan area.
On the 24th, according to Korea University Medical Center, the center was finally selected as the preferred negotiating partner for the general hospital construction project to be built in Dongtan 2 New Town. Hwaseong City and Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH) made the decision after a comprehensive evaluation of the mid- to long-term master plan, medical operations capability, contributions to the local community, and research and innovation strategy.
"Dongtan 4th Korea University Hospital" will be developed as a comprehensive medical campus that combines a general hospital with more than 700 beds, a convalescent rehabilitation hospital, senior welfare housing, and officetels. It plans to apply the latest medical technologies, including an artificial intelligence (AI)-based clinical decision support system, Digital Twin operations, and ultra-connected smart infrastructure, to offer patients a new medical experience.
WOOMI Construction Co., BS Hanyang, and Hyosung Heavy Industries will join the project as construction partners, and Mirae Asset Securities and Hana Bank will participate as financial partners.
Yoon Eul-sik, executive vice president for medical affairs at Korea University, said, "We will realize a future-oriented medical city model in Dongtan that integrates care, research and education, and housing," and noted, "We will build a medical ecosystem that grows together with the community."
