Im Jin-seung, Head of Team at Hyundai Motor, and Lee Jae-jun, CEO of Connected Insight, were selected as the October winners of the Korea Engineer Award.
The "Korea Engineer Award" is a commendation program for outstanding scientists that, to encourage technological innovation on industrial sites and foster a culture that values engineers, selects one engineer each month from a large company and a small or midsize company to receive the Minister of Science and ICT Award and 5 million won in prize money.
Im Jin-seung, Head of Team for EV (electric vehicle) Drive Design 1 at Hyundai Motor's Namyang Research Center, developed a motor system for EVs with world-class efficiency and speed by researching technology that reduces core steel sheet thickness and technology that overcomes centrifugal force through improved cooling.
Head of Team Im Jin-seung said, "At this point in the era of mobility electrification, I will continue working with my colleagues to secure technological leadership for mass-producing new core technologies and motor systems for electric vehicles, enhance national competitiveness, and help Hyundai Motor become the best automaker in the world."
Lee Jae-jun, CEO of Connected Insight, leveraged more than 20 years of accumulated image recognition technology to implement the entire process with original domestic technology, from the design to production of an AOI (a technology that uses optical equipment and software to automatically inspect surfaces) system dedicated to solar cells, to building deep learning–based software.
CEO Lee Jae-jun said, "Science and technology are means that contribute to improving product quality and increasing productivity, and that help us grow together, and I will continue to develop technologies that create meaningful value on industrial sites."
