The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) on the 30th held a listening session on the draft KASA space propulsion strategy technology roadmap for space research and development participants at the Iris Hall of the KW Convention in Daejeon.
This technology roadmap was established to present phased goals and acquisition strategies to identify and efficiently secure promising space technologies based on the needs of industry, academia, and research institutes, grounded in Korea's space transportation, satellites, and space science exploration promotion strategies and the Korea AeroSpace Administration's space transportation, satellites, and space science exploration strategy roadmap. A total of 135 technologies are included in the technology roadmap.
The listening session was prepared to share the medium- to long-term investment direction for national space development under the theme "Taking on K-Space with our technology," and the space agency presented the identification of candidate technology groups according to the sector-specific promotion strategies, the review process for the promotion strategy technologies, the future schedule, and future management plans. Attendees asked about the possibility of participation by industry, academia, and research institutes, the government's support measures for corporations, and details of the technology roadmap.
Park Hwon, head of the mission support division at the space agency, said, "We derived the technology plan based on strategic value, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness, and industry, academia, and research institutes can also participate in technology development," and noted, "We plan to gather opinions through public hearings and other channels and formulate a concrete technology strategy."
The technology roadmap to be established going forward will be built as databases. In addition to being used as basic reference material for planning national research and development projects, it is expected to function as a guideline to prevent duplicate investment by the government and the private sector and to drive efficient technology development. Through the technology roadmap, the space agency plans to strengthen the creation of a private sector-led space industry ecosystem by promoting participation and preemptive investment by private companies, and to lay the groundwork for leading the future space economy era through cooperation between the government and industry.
