The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said on the 26th that the public and private sectors will work together to strengthen the supply of essential medicines. The ministry created an "essential medicines public production and distribution network" with the Korea Orphan & Essential Drug Center and held a roundtable that day. It shared the status of essential medicine production and future plans for operating the network.
The network comprehensively supports every stage from manufacturing to distribution of essential medicines. It will discuss ways to activate a make-to-order system for essential medicines. The goal is to incorporate needed incentives for pharmaceutical companies into the system.
The network includes the government, pharmaceutical industry associations, and producers and distributors of national essential medicines. The ministry said it will "solidify the national essential medicines production system."
