The Ministry of Science and ICT National Science Museum announced the results of the judging for the 71st National Science Exhibition on the 25th.
The National Science Exhibition is the country's oldest science inquiry competition, held every year since the first event in 1949 to broaden the base of the scientific population. For this year's 71st event, a total of 2,836 works were submitted from 17 cities and provinces nationwide, and 301 of them advanced to the final stage.
The President's Award in the student division (industry and energy category) went to the work "Artificial intelligence companion development research - Project A.L.I.C.E -" by the "ALICEization" team (Hong Tae-min and Chae Hyo-rim, second-year students at Gusan Middle School), and in the teachers and general division (biology category), the work "Development of inquiry learning materials focusing on the population increase and behavioral characteristics of greater white-fronted geese (Anser fabailis) in Goheung Bay" by the "Goosedown" team (teachers Kim Yun-ha of Yeosu-seo Elementary School, An Ho-jung of Shindae Elementary School, and Choi Seong-hee of Suncheon Dosa Elementary School) was selected.
For the Prime Minister's Award, in the student division (physics category), the work "Erase moving noise!: Designing a noise removal model optimized for Doppler environments" by the "Doppler" team (Lee Hyun-su and Yu Seung-jun, third-year students at Chungbuk High School) was selected, and in the teachers and general division (earth and environment category), the work "A study on building an immersive astronomy learning space using waste resources" by teacher Ryu Jae-hwan of Nam Daejeon High School was selected.
In addition, 10 top prizes, 75 special prizes, 100 excellence prizes, and 112 encouragement prizes were selected, and the award-winning works showcased a wide spectrum from ideas to solve everyday problems to applied research using advanced science and technology.
Director Kwon Seok-min said, "The National Science Exhibition has served as a gateway for scientific talent in our country and a cradle for the spread of science culture since 1949," adding, "In particular, this year's event highlighted students' efforts to solve various nearby problems with creative ideas based on scientific curiosity." He added, "We look forward to these students growing into science and technology talent who will lead future society."
