Organoid Science said on the 25th that research results uncovering the cause of gray (premature gray) hair, conducted together with COSMAX, recently won the basic research award at the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC). The cause of graying was identified using organoids in which real hair grows. Organoids are stem cells that can grow into all human cells, cultured into three-dimensional structures similar to organs, and are called mini-organs.
The company said it found that stress and diminished function of pigment cells lead to hair depigmentation. It noted the findings could be used for developing functional cosmetics and therapeutics going forward.
The International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists is a venue where cosmetic researchers and experts from around the world gather every year to present their findings. This year, it was held in Cannes, France. Lee Gyeong-jin, Organoid Science chief technology officer (CTO), said, "We will continue research that links bio and cosmetics."
