Director Lee Jeong-mi, who runs Lee Jeong-mi Pediatrics and Adolescent Clinic in Nam-gu, Pohang, donated a 100 million won scholarship on the 17th for students of Pohang University of Science and Technology POSTECH.
Lee said, "I hope not a single student will have to give up their dream because of financial hardship," expressing a heartfelt hope that future science and technology talent will not be discouraged by economic reality. In particular, she broadened eligibility by thoughtfully including students in the "support blind spot" who have difficulty receiving existing scholarship benefits.
The donation will be awarded each year to 10 students in total—five undergraduates and five graduate students—and will be used to support various expenses needed for study and daily life. Up to 2.4 million won per person per year will be provided and used for costs truly needed for students' academic life, such as dormitory fees.
Lee Jeong-mi said, "I wanted to help, even in a small way, to create an environment where Pohang University of Science and Technology POSTECH students can fully realize their potential," adding, "I hope this scholarship fund will be a warm source of hope for students."
Meanwhile, Lee Jeong-mi is the spouse of Cho Dong-wan, an emeritus professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Pohang University of Science and Technology POSTECH. Cho has also been steadily donating scholarship funds to help students from households in financial difficulty.
