The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced on the 5th that the sister journal of the international journal Nature, "Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering," has focused on domestic semiconductor research and human resource development achievements.
The feature article published last month introduced KAIST's leadership in next-generation semiconductor research and education, as well as global industry-academic collaboration. The interview included Professor Kim Kyung-min from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and Professors Yoon Young-kyu, Choi Shin-hyun, Choi Sung-yul, and Yoo Seung-hyup from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
KAIST is leading research in the next-generation semiconductor field through its Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Semiconductor Systems Engineering, and the Graduate School of Semiconductor Engineering. It serves as a key university in the Daedeok Research Complex, acting as the heart of "Korea's Silicon Valley."
This article emphasized that KAIST is growing into an international research hub beyond a research institution. KAIST is attracting outstanding talents from around the world by enhancing diversity, including expanding the appointment of female professors and establishing a global talent visa center to support foreign professors and students.
KAIST researchers forecasted in the interview that the future of semiconductor technology relies not on mere reduction of device sizes but on a convergent approach involving neuromorphic technology, 3D packaging technology, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Professor Kim Kyung-min said, "I am pleased that KAIST's next-generation semiconductor research and talent development strategies are being recognized in the domestic and international academic and industrial sectors through this article," adding, "We will continue to contribute to the advancement of future semiconductor technology through innovative convergent research."
KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung stated, "It is thanks to the dedication of the members that KAIST's research and educational achievements are being highlighted in a global academic journal," and added, "We will continue to expand industry-academic cooperation to lead next-generation semiconductor innovation and play a key role in establishing Korea as a future semiconductor powerhouse."
