The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 31st that it will hold the 'Asia National Designated Entity (NDE)' forum for three days starting from the 1st of next month to facilitate the global expansion of Korea's outstanding climate technologies.
This forum will be co-hosted with the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN), a technical cooperation body for implementing the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the National Institute of Green Technology (NIGT), and the World Bank.
NDE serves as a communication channel among countries to enhance technical support cooperation in the field of climate change adaptation, and Korea's NDE is the Ministry of Science and ICT. The NDE forum is an annual international event that shares decisions and guidelines from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP) with developing countries.
On the first day, September 1, discussions will be held on the implementation direction and latest trends of climate technology mechanisms, and the opinions of each country will be gathered regarding the short-term (2026–2027) and mid- to long-term (2028–2032) CTCN technical support plans.
On the second day, financial institutions such as the World Bank, Green Climate Fund (GCF), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Korea Development Bank will present their climate technology support methods and funding systems, and discussions will be held on the linkage strategies between climate technology and financial institutions.
In particular, on the last day, the 3rd, domestic climate technology corporations will introduce technologies to 20 Asian countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, and seek efficient local application and verification methods. The climate technologies to be introduced include an artificial intelligence (AI)-based climate and environmental management system (DI), a real-time watershed management system (Watershed Integrated Management Institute), solar panels that adjust angles according to sunlight (Envelopes), and an automated waste sorting system (Aetech).
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to establish a cooperative system with the CTCN and financial institutions, actively supporting the discovery of excellent climate technologies applicable in developing countries to help them expand into these countries as well as evolve into official development assistance (ODA) projects.
Ariesta Ningrum, Director General of CTCN, said, "Our goal is not simply to transfer technology, but to build trust, knowledge, and local leadership."
Jeong Taek-ryeol, Director-General of Public Convergence Research Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, noted, "It's very encouraging that other countries are benchmarking Korea's experiences," and added, "I hope that this forum will strengthen international cooperation for the global dissemination of climate tech by sharing experiences with various countries."
