Yonsei Cancer Hospital announced on the 29th that Professors Park Hyung-seok, Kim Ji-ye, and Ahn Ji-hyun have surpassed 1,000 robotic breast surgeries. Robotic surgery involves inserting endoscopic equipment through the armpit or side to remove cancer cells. Patients can easily conceal surgical traces.
Yonsei Cancer Hospital performed the first robotic breast cancer surgery in Asia in 2016. Breast cancer surgery is primarily divided into total mastectomy, which removes the entire breast, and partial mastectomy (breast-conserving surgery), which removes only part of the tumor. According to national cancer registration statistics, breast cancer patients accounted for 10% of all cancer patients in 2021.
