The educational foundation Catholic Academy announced on the 28th that it has appointed Professor Min Chang-ki, a hematologist at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, as the new vice president and director of The Catholic University of Korea.
The term will be for two years, from September 1 to August 31, 2027, and the vice president and director will oversee the education of the medical and nursing colleges at The Catholic University and the management of eight affiliated hospitals.
The new director is considered an authority in the field of blood disorders, specifically multiple myeloma, plasma cell diseases, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor)-T cell therapy, and immunotherapy.
He has been serving as a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at The Catholic University since graduating from the medical school in 1989 and obtaining his master's and doctoral degrees from the same university. After a research stint in the bone marrow transplantation laboratory at the University of Michigan in 2002, he served as the head of the Department of Hematology at The Catholic University and as the deputy director of Seoul St. Mary's Hospital.
He has held several key positions, including Director of the Planning and Coordination Office at Catholic Central Medical Center, head of the Basic Medical Project Promotion Team, director of the Lifelong Education Institute at The Catholic University, and head of the Myeloma Center at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital.
In particular, while serving as Director of the Planning and Coordination Office at Catholic Central Medical Center, he led the opening of The Catholic University's Omnibus Park, the first one-stop industry-academic-research-hospital cluster in a single complex in the country. The Basic Medical Project Promotion Team for the fusion of basic and clinical medicine has also been launched.
Externally, he has served as chairperson of the Transplant Registration Committee and Insurance Committee of the Korean Society of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, a legislative director of the Korean Society of Hematology, chairperson of the Multiple Myeloma Research Association, and a commissioner on the operating committee of the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI).
Currently, he is the president of the Korean Catholic Medical Association, vice president of the alumni association of the College of Medicine at The Catholic University, a review committee member for cancer diseases at the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA), and an advisor for the Cardiac Oncology Research Group of the Korean Society of Cardiology. The inauguration ceremony for the new director Min is set to take place on September 1 at The Catholic University's Omnibus Park.
