The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 24th that it will support 75.9 billion won to regional, essential, and public healthcare institutions, including national university hospitals, to strengthen these services. Regional healthcare institutions are located in one of the 17 cities and provinces nationwide and provide high-level essential medical care.
The funding will be used for the expenses related to facilities and equipment for treating severe illnesses. Gangwon National University Hospital will introduce advanced robotic surgical equipment. Chonnam National University Hospital will expand its negative pressure isolation beds in the intensive care unit. Many hospitals are expanding their operating rooms and enhancing their infrastructure in the intensive care unit.
Cities and provinces that have not yet filled their institutional budgets can submit additional project proposals starting next month. The Ministry noted, "We will mitigate the regional healthcare gap and establish an essential medical cooperation system."
