Global health technology corporation Philips will invest more than $150 million (approximately 200 billion won) in new manufacturing facilities and research and development (R&D) in the United States, it announced on the 14th.
This investment includes the expansion of the ultrasound manufacturing facility in Leesburg, Pennsylvania, and the imaging-guided therapy facility in Plymouth, Minnesota.
The Leesburg plant currently produces transducers, which are key components of ultrasound technology. After the expansion, it plans to supply ultrasound systems tailored for clinical procedures such as cardiovascular and obstetrics. The company projected that 120 new jobs will be created in this process. The Plymouth facility will feature a new MedTech training center, and more than 150 new hires are expected.
Philips invests approximately $900 million annually in research and development in the United States and employs 17,000 people across 40 facilities. Jeff DiRullo, Philips' North American representative, said, "We will create jobs and provide AI-based innovative solutions to more patients by strengthening our manufacturing and research and development capabilities."
