Giant globular cluster M13 shines brightly in northern hemisphere sky

This is M13, known as the Hercules cluster. It is one of the brightest globular clusters in the northern hemisphere, consisting of hundreds of thousands of stars. In 1716, British astronomer Edmond Halley recorded, "This is merely a small spot, but it can be seen with the naked eye when the sky is clear and there is no moon."
