Seoul National University's College of Engineering announced on the 12th that Professor Moon Il-kyung of the Department of Industrial Engineering has been selected as the first Korean Fellow of the global academic organization in the production field, the International Foundation for Production Research (IFPR).
This selection was announced at the 28th International Production Research Conference held in Colombia in July. The Fellow status of IFPR is the highest honor granted by the society and is awarded after a rigorous selection process. So far, only 22 researchers worldwide have obtained this status, and excluding the three who have passed away, only 19 active Fellows remain.
Professor Moon said, "I am very honored to be elected as a Fellow this time after being selected as a director of IFPR in 2019. I would like to thank my predecessors, Emeritus Professors Kang Seok-ho and Park Jin-woo of Seoul National University, who have been actively involved in IFPR since the mid-1980s, enhancing the status of Korean academia. I hope that junior industrial engineering students will consistently attend international conferences in their field and present significant research outcomes, while solidly building networks with overseas scholars to further elevate the level of industrial engineering in Korea."
After completing his bachelor's and master's degrees at Seoul National University, Professor Moon received his doctoral degree from Columbia University in the United States. He taught at the National University of Singapore and Pusan National University before joining Seoul National University as a professor in 2012. Professor Moon has been dedicated to education and research in the fields of production management, logistics management, supply chain management, and simulation. He received the Seoul National University Academic Research Award in 2018 and was selected as a full member of The Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) last year.
