SK Chemicals announced on the 7th that its revenue for the second quarter was 384 billion won, an 11.4% increase compared to the same period last year, while its operating profit was 25.1 billion won, a 19.6% decrease from the same period last year.
The combined revenue for the first half of the year, including the first and second quarters, was 731.1 billion won, and operating profit was 62.1 billion won, representing increases of 10.4% and 24.5%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
On a consolidation basis, the operating loss for the second quarter was 960 million won, indicating a shift to a loss compared to the same period last year. This was influenced by the widening losses of its consolidated subsidiary, SK bioscience.
SK bioscience's revenue for the second quarter increased by 505.5% to 161.9 billion won, but its operating loss widened to 37.4 billion won compared to the same period last year.
SK Chemicals stated, "Despite the increasing uncertainties both domestically and internationally, there have been efforts to boost sales of key products like ECOZEN, but the increase in expenses, such as selling and administrative expenses, was reflected in the performance." It added, "Although an overall industry recession is expected, we will achieve performance improvement through the expansion of high value-added product sales and strengthening competitiveness."
