NASA's asteroid collision experiment aims to protect Earth from impacts

In 2022, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) collided the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft with the asteroid Dimorphos to develop technology that can protect Earth from asteroid impacts. This was an experiment to demonstrate that it is possible to prevent a collision even if a hazardous asteroid is heading toward Earth. The video shows debris from Dimorphos spreading out for 250 seconds after the impact. Dimorphos is set to be analyzed again in detail through the European Space Agency (ESA)'s Hera mission, which is a follow-up to DART.
