The Korea AeroSpace Administration and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced on the 25th that they held the '2nd Space Administration-Defense Acquisition Administration Collaboration Meeting' at the Government Complex in Gwacheon. The meeting was co-chaired by the head of the aerospace mission division of the Korea AeroSpace Administration and the head of the future power acquisition division of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. This meeting is the second one following the first collaboration meeting held on October 31 of last year. It was organized to review the progress of cooperation initiated after the first meeting, support the swift implementation of new government tasks, and further solidify the collaboration system to enhance synergy between defense and civilian space development projects. To revitalize the space industry, the two agencies mutually reviewed their development strategies related to localization of space components to prevent duplication of investment, and discussed ways to jointly utilize identified common needs. They also discussed the joint development of small and medium-sized reusable launch vehicles to strengthen national space launch capabilities, as well as practical operational plans following the establishment of military and civilian joint-use launch facilities.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 25th that it held the '2025 Data Safe Zone Operation Council' at the Korea Data Agency, located in Jung-gu, Seoul. The Data Safe Zone Council is held annually to share policy direction for promoting Data Safe Zones and to exchange operational results between institutions. It involves participation from designated data safe zone agencies according to the Fundamental Act on Promotion of the Data Industry and Utilization, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT. According to the Data Industry Act, data safe zones are designated as safe areas for data analysis when they meet the designation criteria set forth in the 'Guidelines for Designation and Operation of Data Safe Zones' and 'Security Measures for Data Safe Zones' by the Minister of Science and ICT and heads of relevant central administrative agencies. In these zones, sensitive undisclosed data can be protected technically and managerially while utilizing data necessary for AI development. During this council, the Ministry of Science and ICT introduced the recent achievements and plans in enhancing the data safe zone system currently being promoted, and discussions continued on the current status of operations and future plans for each designated data safe zone agency.
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), and Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), six government-funded research institutes in the science and technology sector, announced on the 25th that they signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation for training and education of practical artificial intelligence (AI) convergence talent needed in the research and development field at KBSI Daedeok Headquarters 'Nuri and Naru'. A total of 22 people attended the signing ceremony, including the directors and deputy directors of the six institutions. The agreement primarily focuses on jointly utilizing the facilities and infrastructure held by each institution, co-developing and operating AI convergence training programs tailored to the research and development fields of each institution, discovering and conducting convergence research and development projects through inter-agency collaboration, and fostering mutual cooperation for the exchange of specialized personnel among the institutions. Based on this agreement, the institutions plan to establish a close linkage system centered on a council composed of education training departments related to the strengths of each institution, thereby initiating full-scale joint cooperation in education and the field of convergence research and development.
The National Science Museum announced that it will hold a special exhibition titled 'Photo Hot Spot: Collaboration of Science, Technology, and Desire' from the 25th to October 12 at the Creative Narae Hall of the National Science Museum. This exhibition sheds light on how the four desires projected in photography—what humans want to remember, know, show, and create—have met and evolved with science and technology. The exhibition title reflects the universal desire to take photographs, while the subtitle, 'Collaboration of Science, Technology, and Desire,' encapsulates the integrated characteristics of human psychology and science and technology hidden within the photographs.
