The Korean Medical Association Organization's emergency response committee held a temporary delegate general meeting on the 19th on the basement floor of their headquarters in Yongsan, Seoul, and confirmed three major demands to be delivered to the government.
The core demands decided this time are ▲ the formation of a consultative body centered on field experts to review the essential medical policy of the Yoon Suk-yeol government ▲ improvement of the training environment for residents and ensuring training continuity ▲ establishment of a discussion body to alleviate legal burdens from medical accidents.
At the meeting, 138 out of a total of 177 members attended, with 124 in favor, 8 opposed, and 6 abstentions, allowing the agenda to pass.
Under the leadership of Chairperson Han Seong-jun (a representative of residents at Asan Medical Center), the newly organized Korean Medical Association Organization has simplified its three major demands compared to the seven demands announced last year under former Chairperson Park Dan.
The seven demands announced at that time included ▲ complete withdrawal of the essential medical package and the increase of 2,000 medical school students ▲ establishment of a forecasting body for physician supply and demand ▲ expansion of hiring for specialists at training hospitals ▲ alleviation of burdens from unavoidable medical accidents ▲ improvement of the training environment for residents ▲ complete withdrawal and apology for unjust commands ▲ abolishment of work commencement orders.
The meeting, which started at 5 p.m., concluded after discussions continued past 11 p.m.
