The National Academy of Engineering of Korea has increased the prize money for the 'grand prize,' representing the domestic engineering technology sector, to 400 million won, double that of before. Based on individual award prize money, this is the highest level in the country. The Young Engineer Award has adjusted the age criterion for award recipients from under 50 to under 40.
The National Academy of Engineering of Korea noted on the 11th that it has revamped its award program to more broadly discover and prioritize talents that have contributed to the advancement of engineering technology.
First, the highest honor, the 'grand prize', has increased its prize money from 200 million won to 400 million won. This is among the highest individual awards in the field of science and technology in Korea. The increase in prize money is thanks to additional grants from Kiturami. Kiturami has been sponsoring the management of the Academy's award program for 20 years.
The age criterion for the Young Engineer Award has been lowered from under 50 to under 40. The Academy explained that this change is to strengthen practical support for the next generation of engineering talents and to encourage the early discovery and growth of young talents.
To reward talents who have achieved outstanding results in key future technologies such as AI, biotechnology, and quantum computing, a 'New Frontier Award' has been established. The plan is to discover engineers who have contributed to technological advancement based on creativity and a spirit of challenge in emerging industries.
Additionally, to reward engineers who have contributed to technological independence and industrial competitiveness in the materials, parts, and equipment sectors, a 'DONGJIN Award' has been established. This award is funded by DONGJIN SEMICHEM and aims to select recipients based on achievements that create significant technological innovations and ripple effects in industrial settings.
Chairman Yoon Eui-jun said, 'This revamp of the award program was a significant achievement made possible thanks to the active sponsorship of our supporters in celebration of the 30th anniversary of The National Academy of Engineering of Korea,' and added, 'We will continue to discover key technical talents through a fair and authoritative award system and lead the enhancement of South Korea's engineering position in the world.'
