■ Hong Won-hwa, the president of the National Research Foundation of Korea, attended the 13th Global Research Funding Agencies' Heads Meeting held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 19th to 21st. More than 200 experts in scientific and technological research and innovation from 66 countries attended this general assembly, including heads of 54 research funding agencies from around the world. President Hong participated in thematic panel discussions, sharing innovative research management cases from the National Research Foundation of Korea, including an AI-based evaluation committee recommendation system.
■ The Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) announced on the 27th that it received the ISO 37301 certification for an international standard compliance management system from the Korea Productivity Center at a ceremony held at KIST's headquarters in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. ISO 37301 assesses an organization's internal control system and ethical and legal culture, and the certification is awarded to institutions with a compliant management system that meets international standards.
■ Pohang Accelerator Laboratory announced that it will hold the '7th International Symposium on Accelerator-Based Technology' on June 4th in the auditorium on the first floor of the laboratory's science building. This symposium, hosted by Pohang City and North Gyeongsang Province and organized by the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, aims to explore the development direction of the next-generation material industry based on advanced analytical technology utilizing synchrotron radiation accelerators and to enhance international competitiveness through exchanges with domestic and international experts.
■ Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced that it held a seminar on strengthening defense research and development capabilities in the auditorium of the Institute for Advanced Laser Technology on the 23rd. This seminar was organized by the Future Space Defense Convergence Research Center under the GIST Asia-Pacific Research Institute (APRI). Approximately 50 participants, including GIST faculty and researchers, military personnel, industry representatives, academics, research institutions, and officials from government-affiliated organizations attended. GIST is currently conducting defense-related research and development projects worth about 10 billion won annually.
