Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) announced on the 22nd that Song Jae-ho, chairman of Kyungdong Holdings, has taken office as the 10th chairman. His term is three years, until April 2028.
Chairman Song was elected as chairman at an extraordinary board meeting held on the 20th at L Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. This marks his reappointment following his term as the 9th chairman in 2023.
Chairman Song Jae-ho graduated from the Department of Business Administration at Sogang University and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career as a management strategy consultant, served as president of KYUNGDONG CITY GAS in 2005, and is currently serving as the representative director and chairman of Kyungdong Holdings. He has also served as vice president of the International Gas Union and as president of the Korea City Gas Association.
KYUNGDONG CITY GAS laid the foundation for fostering scientific and technological talent in 2007, during the early establishment of UNIST. UNIST established the Kyungdong Scholarship Foundation the following year and named the university's auditorium on the 4th floor of the main building 'Kyungdong Hall.' To date, over 570 individuals have received scholarships from the foundation. Chairman Song has also been active as a director of UNIST since 2015.
Chairman Song noted, "I deeply feel the importance of the advancement of science and technology in ensuring the prosperity of the nation and future generations," adding, "I will do my best to serve as a guiding role to ensure that UNIST, the local community, and the nation can develop together."
