■The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced on the 13th that Professor Yoon Sang-ho and his research team have developed the 'T2IRay' and 'ChoreoCraft' technologies in collaboration with Professor Yang Jang of the University of California, Los Angeles. T2IRay is a technology that allows for the free and precise manipulation of objects in virtual space, while ChoreoCraft aids choreographers in virtual reality. These technologies won two excellent paper awards, given to the top 5% at the premier international conference on human-computer interaction (CHI) 2025.
■The National Research Foundation of Korea held a total of seven '2025 Headquarters Clean Coach Team Leader/PO Meetings' from April 24 to May 12 at various locations, including the headquarters meeting room. The meetings were chaired by Secretary General Lee Seok-rae and targeted heads of departments and POs from each headquarters. The foundation plans to enhance the effectiveness of integrity policies and internal control systems based on the specialized core tasks identified during these meetings, and to share and disseminate key improvement tasks across the organization, centered on a task force for enhancing integrity led by the head of the institute.
■The Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT) announced on the 13th that it will co-host a symposium on 'Pesticide Risk Assessment Using Advanced Toxicity Testing Methods' with the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences at the auditorium of the Rural Development Administration's Agricultural Science Library. The symposium will share research results and the latest trends in pesticide evaluation using advanced toxicity testing methods, discussing specific measures to overcome the ethical and expense-related limitations of animal testing. The event will include both a symposium on research trends and outcomes and a workshop featuring practical sessions on toxicity testing using chemical structure-based computing technology and zebrafish.
■The Korea Industrial Technology Association (KITA) announced that it held a 'Policy Meeting to Enhance Corporate Research and Development (R&D) Vitality' in the National Assembly building in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 13th. The meeting was co-hosted by KITA and Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Cho Seung-rae, with attendance from lawmakers of the Democratic Party, representatives from corporations in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and biotechnology, and chief technology officers (CTOs). KITA Vice Chairman Koh Seo-gon noted, 'As we face a complex crisis due to increasing uncertainties both domestically and internationally, the most fundamental solution to revive the domestic economy is technological innovation,' urging that the voices from the field should lead to institutional improvements.
■The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), along with the Korea Ocean Foundation and other partners, will hold the '2025 Youth Ocean Olympiad' to foster future marine talent. This competition will include a preliminary round where investigation proposals are submitted, followed by a three-day, four-night main camp. A total of 29 awardees will receive certificates and a cash prize of a total of 12.8 million won, including the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award and the KIOST Director Award. Major awardees will also be given opportunities for overseas training. Applications can be submitted through the Korea Ocean Foundation's website (www.ocean.or.kr) from the 1st to June 11.
