Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) and Korea University have signed a business agreement on Dec. 9 at the UNIST Industry-Academia Cooperation Building to collaborate on strategic technology research and talent exchange. The two universities plan to establish a sustainable cooperation system and foster an advanced research ecosystem. They will first form a convergence cooperation committee to identify practical collaboration projects. They will promote research cooperation in the strategic technology sector through a joint seed fund, as well as implement credit exchange and a joint supervisor system.
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has been selected as the main agency for the development of a low-Earth orbit satellite communication system based on 6G standards of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), an international standardization organization led by the government. The project aims to establish a low-Earth orbit satellite communication system composed of two low-Earth orbit communication satellites, ground stations, and terminal stations by 2030, facilitating communication functions between satellites and between satellites and the ground. ETRI's Moon-sik Lee, head of the Satellite Communication Research Department, will lead the initiative.
Members of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee, including Jo In-cheol (Democratic Party of Korea), Choi Soo-jin (People Power Party), and Choi Hyung-doo (People Power Party), along with The Korean Academy of Science and Technology and representatives from various scientific and technological associations, have announced that they will hold the '1st Forum on Policies for Fostering Talents in Science and Engineering' on the morning of Jan. 13 at 10 a.m. in the National Assembly Member's Office Building. The forum will focus on 'In the Crisis Era of Science and Engineering, Seeking Solutions for Nurturing Science and Technology Talent,' diagnosing the current status of the science and engineering workforce and evaluating the effectiveness of current science and technology talent policies, and discussing policy solutions. The presentations at the forum will be led by Senior Research Fellow Ki-beom Park from the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI) and Young-oh Kim, Dean of the College of Engineering at Seoul National University.
The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) announced that it will co-host the '2025 Chungcheong Cyber Threat Scenario Contest' with the Chungcheong Branch of the Korean Society for Information Security. This contest is a related program to the '2025 Chungcheong Cybersecurity Conference' scheduled for September and targets eight areas including AI, smart cities, K-defense, water resources, railroads, power generation, gas, and software supply chains. Chungcheong region university and graduate students can participate as individuals or in teams of up to three. The total prize money is 35 million won.
