A survey asking medical students nationwide about their 'intent to return to class' is being conducted, while student councils from various medical schools are requesting students to respond with 'return.' As there is a majority opinion that participation in classes is necessary, there are claims that this request aims to maintain a united front and strengthen follow-up responses.
According to the medical and education sectors on the 26th, some emergency response committee chairs from medical student councils sent the same message to students asking them to agree to return to classes.
This message titled 'Urgent Notice' contained the message, 'Please vote in favor of everyone agreeing to return,' and added, 'This does not mean we accept the current situation and will return immediately, but rather we want to clarify our conditional intent to return so that the results of the survey are not misused.'
It also stated, 'We aim to prevent our true purpose of advocating for changes in the education and medical environment from being distorted based only on the survey results.' It continued, 'Even after this survey, our sense of purpose remains the same, and we must maintain our current state in action. The struggle will continue, regardless of the voting results.'
However, the student association of the Korea Medical University and Medical School Association emphasized that there is no connection between the content of the text message and the student council.
The message stated, 'We will inform you of the position of the emergency committee regarding this demand survey (class return survey) and clarify that it did not originate from the student association.'
The student association also stated that it did not write a notice containing this content and did not provide separate guidelines to each medical school student council.
This survey is currently being conducted by the Korea Association of Medical Colleges and Medical Graduate Schools (KAMC) in consultation with the Ministry of Education to ask medical students about their intent to return to class.
