The 2025 Korea Science and Technology Festival will be held in downtown Daejeon for five days from the 16th to the 20th.
This year's Korea Science and Technology Festival integrates three events that were previously held individually: the "Korea Science Festival," the "Korea Science and Technology Exhibition," and the "Daejeon Science Festival." It is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Daejeon Metropolitan City, with the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity, the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Daejeon Tourism Corporation, and the Science Culture Private Council co-hosting.
This year's festival will be themed "The engine of science and technology, awakening curiosity" and will feature about 850 programs. It will include the "Curiosity Power Plant (Korea Science Festival)," which allows visitors to enjoy and communicate science and technology culture; the "Curiosity Research Institute (Korea Science and Technology Exhibition)," which showcases Korea's science and technology R&D achievements; and the "Curiosity Theme Park (Daejeon Science Festival)," which incorporates entertainment elements of science and technology.
The Curiosity Power Plant, held at Expo Citizens' Square, will be focused on performances and experiences for the whole family. It will feature science and technology experience and education programs participated in by research institutes and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, mobile exhibitions involving all five national science museums, a science experience playground, as well as programs from corporations such as Samyang Round Square, BMW Korea Future Foundation, and LEGO Education.
The Curiosity Research Institute at the Daejeon Convention Center's second exhibition hall will display results from major national strategic technology fields, cutting-edge technologies, and exhibits from the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), showcasing R&D achievements from research organizations and universities. The Curiosity Theme Park at Expo Science Park and the first exhibition hall of the Daejeon Convention Center will host activities such as the World Science Culture Forum featuring notable domestic and international speakers, and a literary garden illuminating the creative imagination of science fiction literature and scientific exploration.
The Curiosity Broadcasting Station, which communicates with visitors in real time, will also be operated during the event. Science YouTubers such as Andwael Science and Kokobora are scheduled to explain science and technology to the public.
At the opening ceremony on the 16th, science creator Heo Seong-beom will host, with a keynote lecture by Lee Sedol, a UNIST special professor, and a performance by singer-songwriter Kwon Jin-ah. Minister Yoo Sang-im will attend a talk with young scientists held prior to the opening ceremony to encourage researchers.
