
Im Seung-cheol, the former Secretary-General of the Nuclear Safety And Security Commission, has taken office as the 14th president of the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS). The term is 3 years.
The new president graduated from the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Seoul National University and obtained a doctorate in nuclear engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He has served as the Minister at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Austria and the Permanent Representative to International Organizations, head of exhibition research at the National Science Museum, and as Secretary-General and a standing committee member of the Nuclear Safety And Security Commission.
In his inaugural speech, the president emphasized that "the promotion of efficient operations and the establishment of an ethical and transparent organizational structure can ensure the sustainable development of KINS," while highlighting the need for rationalizing the performance system considering the role of the regulatory expert institution for nuclear safety, establishing a system to unleash the potential and capabilities of employees, and improving communication methods regarding regulatory outcomes.
