Sartorius, a German bio-corporation, announced on the 8th that it will invest $550 million (780 billion won) to build facilities and production facilities in Songdo International City, Incheon.

According to the city of Incheon, Joachim Kreuzburg, chairman of Sartorius, and Michael Gross, the next chairman, met with Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok to discuss the current investment status and future plans in Songdo.

Sartorius leads the global bio-manufacturing process sector by supplying life science-related equipment and process solutions from over 60 locations worldwide. In South Korea, the company is pushing forward its Songdo project through Sartorius Korea Operations.

Sartorius decided to invest $300 million in bio raw material production and research facilities in Songdo Advanced Industrial Cluster (B) in 2022 and began construction in January 2023. Subsequently, it added an investment of $250 million (37 billion won) to expand its contract testing facilities and training facilities, raising the total investment amount to $550 million.

Mayor Yoo said, "The additional investment from Sartorius will be a turning point in enhancing the competitiveness of the bio-industry in Songdo," and noted, "We will spare no support for sustainable growth."
