Lee Hyuk-soo, a principal researcher at LG Electronics, and Park Min-seob, a director at Curiosys, were selected as the winners of the Korea Engineer Award for April.
The 'Korea Engineer Award' is given monthly to one engineer from a large company and one from a small or medium-sized enterprise to promote technological innovation in the industrial field and to create an environment that favors technicians, along with the Minister of Science and ICT award and a cash prize of 5 million won.
Lee Hyuk-soo from LG Electronics developed the world's first direct drive (DD) dryer and 6-motion shrink prevention drying technology. DD refers to a method where the driving unit is directly connected to the motor. The DD dryer has been praised for meeting the demands of customers who wish to minimize clothing damage by integrating artificial intelligence and various sensing technologies.
This principal researcher also devised the 6-motion drying technique that involves actions such as shaking or pulling clothes before hanging them on a drying rack. This was commercialized for the first time in the world and received the CES Innovation Award and UL Deep Learning AI certification.
Lee Hyuk-soo stated, "I will continue to develop innovative technologies that alleviate customer inconveniences," adding, "I will contribute to the development of the home appliance industry in our country, as well as to social roles such as energy savings."
Park Min-seob, a director at Curiosys, is an expert in the field of bio-device manufacturing and led the development of the domestically produced medical device, the digital pathology scanner "MSP." The digital pathology slide scanner system scans multiple tissue and cell specimen slides and converts them into high-resolution digital images for management. MSP has global competitiveness in terms of high speed, ultra-high resolution, and user-friendliness.
Director Park Min-seob remarked, "This award gives me great encouragement and a sense of responsibility as a researcher. I will continue to work on solidifying our country's position in bio laboratories and the global medical market through innovative technology and product development."
