The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 31st that it is seeking two operators to manage a 'public technology commercialization fund' valued at approximately 24 billion won.

The public technology commercialization fund is an investment fund for corporations that commercialize research results possessed by public research institutes such as universities and government-funded research institutes. Since 2021, the Ministry of Science and ICT has created investment resources for public technology commercialization corporations through a mother fund, amounting to approximately 93.6 billion won across six sub-funds over a four-year period.

Starting this year, it will be operated as a dedicated fund specialized for universities and grants technology holding companies. It aims to support them in fulfilling their mission to connect technology and early markets in the technology commercialization ecosystem.

Operators wishing to participate in managing the fund can apply online from April 22 to 29. Those selected will receive preferential points if they confirm the participation of investors above a certain standard.

Lee Eun-young, director of research performance innovation at the Ministry of Science and ICT, noted, 'Supporting public technology commercialization corporations to create added value through research results from universities and government-funded research institutes is an important role of the government,' adding, 'The Ministry of Science and ICT will also spare no effort in supporting the commercialization of basic and original research results.'
