"Duct tape can be used in an atmosphere close to a vacuum. Duct tape is magic, and it is an object that deserves to be revered." In the movie "The Martian," which depicts an astronaut stranded on Mars, the protagonist is seen repairing his spacesuit helmet and space habitat with duct tape. This scene can actually be seen in the Apollo 17 lunar exploration mission conducted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). In 1972, astronauts Harrison Schmidt and Eugene Cernan repaired the wheel housing of a broken rover using a map and duct tape. This was to prevent the rover from breaking down due to the lunar soil known as regolith.
